Copa Airlines to connect Panama City with Porlamar from November 2026

Published · 5 min read

Information verified as of August 7, 2026. Copa Airlines announced that the route will begin on November 26, 2026, with three weekly frequencies. Because this is a future schedule, times may be adjusted; always confirm the itinerary and your fare conditions before traveling.

Copa Airlines will add Porlamar (PMV), on Margarita Island, to its network from Tocumen International Airport (PTY). The new nonstop service will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, making Porlamar the airline's sixth destination in Venezuela.

The route will allow passengers to travel between Panama and Nueva Esparta state without first passing through Caracas. It will also provide one-stop access through Tocumen to many cities in North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean served by Copa Airlines.

Panama–Porlamar flight schedule

The announced itinerary lists the following local times:

FlightRouteDaysDepartureArrival
CM651Panama City (PTY) → Porlamar (PMV)Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday09:5013:36
CM652Porlamar (PMV) → Panama City (PTY)Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday14:4616:30

Porlamar is one hour ahead of Panama City. Accounting for that difference, the flight will take approximately 2 hours 46 minutes to Margarita and 2 hours 44 minutes to Panama. The schedule provides about one hour and ten minutes between CM651's arrival and CM652's departure at Santiago Mariño Airport.

Why this route matters

Until now, many international travelers bound for Margarita had to enter Venezuela through another city and complete their journey on a domestic flight. The new service will provide direct access to General en Jefe Santiago Mariño Caribbean International Airport (PMV), which serves Porlamar and the rest of the island.

According to the announcement reported by La Prensa of Panama, the route will connect Margarita with more than 80 destinations across the Americas through the Hub of the Americas. This network can support family, leisure, and business travel, provided the selected itinerary allows enough connecting time and all segments are properly ticketed.

Copa expands its Venezuelan network

Porlamar will join Copa Airlines' Venezuelan destinations: Caracas, Maracaibo, Valencia, Barcelona, and Barquisimeto. Expansion into Nueva Esparta had been under review for months and reflects both tourism demand and interest in improving direct international connectivity for Venezuelan regions without concentrating every journey in the capital.

Flights at other airports do not guarantee that every route will retain the same frequency in November. If your trip combines Porlamar with another point in Venezuela, confirm the domestic segment separately and avoid tight connections between separate tickets.

What Margarita offers travelers

Margarita Island is one of Venezuela's leading beach destinations. Its best-known locations include Playa El Agua, Parguito, and El Yaque, the latter known for windsurfing and kitesurfing conditions.

The destination also offers religious and historic sites such as the Basilica of Our Lady of the Valley and San Carlos de Borromeo Castle. Sea excursions from Margarita to Coche and Cubagua can also be arranged, but these transfers are not part of the airline ticket and depend on local operators, weather, and availability.

Connections at Tocumen

The Panama arrival time is designed to integrate with part of Copa Airlines' network, but not every city will have an immediate same-day connection. Before purchasing:

  • Check the total layover and the terminal shown at Tocumen.
  • Make sure all flights are on one booking when you need protection against schedule changes.
  • Confirm whether baggage will be checked through to Porlamar or your final destination.
  • Review transit requirements for your nationality even if you do not plan to leave the airport.
  • If you want to remain in Panama, check the current Panama Stopover conditions and immigration entry requirements.

Recommendations for traveling to Porlamar

  1. Reconfirm the launch: verify that the November 26 operation and your specific flight remain scheduled.
  2. Use the correct code: Porlamar is PMV; do not confuse it with Caracas (CCS), Valencia (VLN), or Barcelona (BLA).
  3. Verify your documents: check entry, exit, and transit requirements for the entire itinerary.
  4. Plan ground transportation: arrange your transfer from the airport to your accommodation in advance.
  5. Review baggage and fare: conditions depend on the fare family purchased and may affect the final cost.
  6. Avoid immediate nonrefundable commitments: allow flexibility for possible changes to a route that has not yet begun operating.
