Costa Verde road closures in Callao affect access to Jorge Chávez Airport

Published Updated · 3 min read

Updated August 10, 2026: this event has concluded. The Costa Verde road closures on the Callao stretch were tied to the July 2026 Fiestas Patrias civic, military, and school parade and are no longer in force. Access to Jorge Chávez Airport is operating without this restriction. This article is kept as a reference for planning transfers whenever closures for civic events recur.

Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM) warned passengers about temporary road closures on Costa Verde, Callao section, which began this Monday, July 20, 2026, for the Great Civic, Military, and School Parade marking Peru's Independence Day, as reported by the official account @aeropuerto_jorgechavez and confirmed by outlets such as La República, Infobae, and El Comercio.

Closure schedule: July 20 and 21

Restrictions apply in stages over two days:

  • Monday, July 20: from 8:00 a.m., closure of the Costa Verde section between Av. Miguel Grau (Chucuito sector) and the Av. Santa Rosa descent.
  • Tuesday, July 21: from 12:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., the closure extends to the intersection with Av. Haya de la Torre.

Also closed are the intersections of the Costa Verde–Chucuito Expressway, Av. Santa Rosa with Av. La Paz, and Av. Haya de la Torre with Av. La Paz.

Recommended alternate routes to the airport

For those traveling from Lima toward Callao or Jorge Chávez Airport, the recommendation is to take Av. Haya de la Torre and continue on Av. Venezuela. For the opposite direction (Callao toward Lima), the alternate route is Av. Miguel Grau and Av. Guardia Chalaca. Av. Faucett remains an additional access route to the airport area while the closures are in effect.

Recommended arrival times

The airport reiterated its standard recommendation to arrive 2 hours ahead for domestic flights and 3 hours ahead for international flights, a margin that becomes more relevant given the potential traffic congestion caused by the closures and rerouted traffic.

Context: access routes in transition to the new terminal

These closures come at a time when access to Jorge Chávez's new terminal already operates under a temporary scheme, with modular entry bridges while funding is worked out for the Vía Expresa Santa Rosa, the permanent access project that would directly connect Costa Verde with the airport. Against this backdrop, the parade-related closures add an extra layer of planning for travelers.
