Avianca to launch daily nonstop flights between Bogotá and Maracaibo in August

Published · 5 min read

Information verified as of July 27, 2026. The route is scheduled and available through Avianca's channels for an August 28 launch. The service was announced subject to government approval, and schedules may change before departure; always confirm your booking status with the airline.

Avianca will expand its network between Colombia and Venezuela with nonstop flights between Bogotá's El Dorado International Airport (BOG) and Maracaibo's La Chinita International Airport (MAR). Service is scheduled to begin on August 28, 2026, with one daily flight in each direction.

The new link will allow passengers from Zulia state to reach Bogotá without first traveling to Caracas or connecting through another regional hub. From El Dorado, travelers may also connect with other destinations in Avianca's network, subject to availability and proper ticketing of all segments on the same booking.

Bogotá–Maracaibo flight schedule

The published timetable lists the following flights every day. All times are local:

FlightRouteDepartureArrivalFrequency
AV94Bogotá (BOG) → Maracaibo (MAR)15:0517:40Daily
AV95Maracaibo (MAR) → Bogotá (BOG)19:0019:25Daily

Estimated flight time is approximately 1 hour 35 minutes to Maracaibo and 1 hour 25 minutes to Bogotá. Although the return schedule appears to show only 25 minutes between departure and arrival, this is because Maracaibo is one hour ahead of Bogotá.

Airbus A320 operation

The route is planned with 180-seat Airbus A320 aircraft. With seven weekly flights in each direction, Avianca will add approximately 2,500 round-trip seats per week to this cross-border market.

Tickets are already displayed on Avianca's official website. Fares are dynamic and can vary by date, demand, baggage allowance, and fare family, so a price seen today is not guaranteed for a later search.

Maracaibo will be Avianca's second Venezuelan destination

Adding Maracaibo will expand the airline's Venezuelan presence alongside its Bogotá–Caracas service. For western Venezuela, the nonstop flight improves access to Colombia and to international connections available through Bogotá.

Specialized schedule data published by AeroRoutes indicates that Avianca previously served this market until 1983 with a weekly Bogotá–Maracaibo–San Juan flight. The 2026 service therefore marks the airline's return to the corridor after more than four decades, now as a daily nonstop operation.

The airports on the new route

  • Bogotá (BOG): El Dorado is Avianca's main connecting hub. If continuing to another city, confirm that baggage is checked to the final destination and that the connection time is sufficient.
  • Maracaibo (MAR): La Chinita serves Maracaibo and Zulia state. Plan ground transportation in advance, particularly for the evening AV95 departure.

What to check before purchasing

  1. Actual launch date: confirm that your flight remains scheduled after August 28 and has received the required approvals.
  2. Local time: remember that Maracaibo is one hour ahead of Bogotá.
  3. Documents: verify the immigration, entry, and exit requirements for your nationality and residence with the relevant authorities.
  4. Baggage and fare: review what the selected fare family includes before paying; this article does not replace your ticket conditions.
  5. Bogotá connections: confirm whether every segment is on one booking and what protection applies if the first flight changes.
  6. Purchase channel: use Avianca, an authorized agency, or a trusted travel advisor, and keep your booking reference.

A nonstop alternative for western Venezuela

The route can support family, business, and leisure travel between Zulia and Colombia while reducing travel time compared with itineraries that required an additional connection. Daily frequency also offers greater flexibility than service limited to selected days of the week.

Even so, a timetable published weeks in advance may receive commercial or operational adjustments. Recheck the flight number, airport, and departure time within 24 hours of travel.
